<address>Beautiful masonry is occasionally marred by improper</address>
<address>cleaning, which can be avoided. The purpose of cleaning</address>
<address>new masonry is to remove excess mortar from the face of</address>
<address>the brick. The sooner the brickwork is cleaned after</address>
<address>installation, the easier it is to remove the mortar smears.</address>
<address>The easiest cleaning is accomplished shortly after laying,</address>
<address>usually the same day, by wiping off the excess mortar using</address>
<address>a bristle brush. The second easiest method is to wash down</address>
<address>the wall the same or following day with only water and a</address>
<address>brush. The third approach is to use chemical cleaners. The</address>
<address>chemicals typically contain some form of acid for softening</address>
<address>the mortar. These chemicals, while softening the mortar</address>
<address>smears, can discolor the mortar and the brick and bring</address>
<address>salts to the surface if improperly used. Hanson Brick</address>
<address>recommends using Prosoco* or other professional/</address>
<address>proprietary cleaning products.</address>
